Give us grace to overcome
the sins we hold so dear, Let us hate and sorrow them, And live in gospel fear. Mortify these wretched thoughts, and purify our speech; Rectify our putrid hearts; Thy grace we do beseech. Turn our feet from evil paths and break our lust for sin; Cleanse us in Thy righteousness and change us from within.

Within my heart a fire burns; My bones do agonize. I cannot quench or hold it back; His Name I can’t despise. Woe unto me if I speak not, Or fail to mention Him. The gospel must go forth from me Announcing this anthem. Your law will sting, your grace will shake When You extend your Word. The sword will strike, men’s hearts will melt, When this frail soul is stirred.
Though God of God and Light of Light,
He shunned the grandeurs of his might. He donned the form of mortal man To carry out redemption’s plan. He who did rule in riches lush Let it all go that he may crush With one great blow that serpent’s head, And all the evils that we dread. The King Divine, He took on skin! Yea, he came down to cancel sin. Was born to die; to be accursed! That Adam’s pains may be reversed! Jesus was born that death may be Vanquished for all eternity! So give him praise and ne’er forget How he did stoop to pay your debt. |
