We've got a great newsletter this month! It is overflowing with good stuff. This month we continue our series of "So you think you are Reformed?" with a look at each of the Five Points of Calvinism. What's even better is that a few congregation members stepped up to take a petal of the five points. I have to hand it to them too, each of them was able to do a phenomenal job, despite being confined to less than 600 words!

"I love old school, doctrinal preaching!" The latest installment of Doctrine on Fire just went up on the site. Be sure to catch The Danger of a Life of Pleasure, a stirring message from the famed 19th century minister Samuel Miller. The pursuit of pleasure is the #1 one god of our age. People are addicted to porn, video games, the internet and almost every other form of personal gratification. But that's what makes Miller's exposition of the cutting irony in Ecclesiastes 11:9 so incredibly relevant. As he opens the wise man's warning Miller will show you how madly irrational it is to waste a single moment in a life of frivolity and indulgence. "The nation that will not serve you shall perish; Those nations will be utterly laid waste."
Is. 60:12 I regret to inform you that my presbytery did not approve the motion I put together. The vote failed, 5 for and 8 against. This means that the letter rebuking the Ohio Senate for their delay on the Heartbeat Bill will not be sent. Three of us had our votes in the affirmative recorded in the minutes--an oddity as it is dissenting votes that are normally recorded. The three of us wished that there be an official record of our attempt to save the 30,000 lives that are lost each year.
In other news, the presbytery discussed whether or not it was permissible to practice intinction (dipping the bread in the wine at the Lord's Supper) for nearly two hours. I've had wonderful feedback from this last semester's homeschool courses, from kids and parents alike. Thanks a bunch!
I have been asked by a number of people as of late to do some classes this spring. I'm checking to see if there is any further interest. If there is a goodly number, I might be able to make a go of it. The classes would be for anyone 6th-12th grades. Price would be about $100 / course (which works out to about $10 a class as there are between 10-12 classes per course). We'd meet once a week for about an hour per class from March to May. The classes offered include the following: Creative Writing , Public Speaking , Basic Bible Doctrine , and class I'll call a Worldviews class, as it is based on my Art and How to Watch a Movie courses. The links will take you to a fuller description of the courses. Please contact me for more information if you need it. If you are interested, please let me know how many children and how old. |
